Multisystemic Therapy

Multisystemic Therapy (MST) is a community-based, family-driven treatment for youth between the ages of 12 and 17 whose externalizing behavior is putting them at risk for severe system consequences.

Some potential behaviors youth might be displaying include:

  • Theft and other criminal behaviors
  • Aggressive/Violent/Assaultive behaviors
  • Substance abuse/Selling substances
  • Chronic absences and/or problem behaviors in school
  • Runaway

Some potential system consequences include:

  • Out of home placement
  • Arrest and/or criminal charges
  • Violation of probation
  • School expulsion
  • Child welfare involvement

The effectiveness of MST is backed by 35+ years of research that consistently shows adherent implementation of the model leads to decreased criminal behavior, decreased arrest rates, and decreased rates of incarceration.
