Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTFs) are licensed facilities that provide psychiatric and stabilazation services to individuals under age eighteen years, or less than twenty-one years of age who are placed by court order or voluntarily placed under the direction of a licensed physician in a residential setting. Children and youth served in a PRTF setting receive professional clinical services via individual treatment, group therapy, family therapy, medication management, psychological services, weekly physician contact, and post emergency intervention debriefing. Children or youth in these settings have interdisciplinary teams who meet weekly to adjust clinical services and best meet the needs of the child or youth in placement.
